Performance rankings

8th to 14th July 2019

With everyone refreshed after the East-West mid season break and ready to go, here are last weeks performance rankings.

1st KPL
Having lost their first two games in the season just before the break, KPL have come back with a very strong performance and took 9 out of 9 possible points from IPV, Kiteen Palo -90 and Siilinjärven Pesis. KPL have significantly started to pull away from the lower order of the top 8 and are virtually guaranteed home advantage in the playoffs. With just 1 point separating the top 2 teams, KPL will be hoping to push for the top spot in the coming weeks.

2nd Hyvinkään Tahko
Tahko are second in our rankings this week, despite only playing 2 games, because of how significant their wins are over Raahe and Kempele - who are both fighting for playoff places; these are the type of teams Tahko must beat to stay in shape at the end of the season. Tahko are in a tight race against JoMa for 4th (or possibly higher in the table) with only 1 point separating them.

3rd Sotkamon Jymy
Going into Sunday’s game Sotkamo were going to be mentioned in this section by virtue of SiiPe’s 3 point win over them at home; however their 2 point win over the otherwise unstoppable Vimpeli pushed them up our rankings into 3rd, just pipping Joensuun Maila. Sotkamo are comfortably in the top 8 and the win against Vimpeli will show everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with... when they play well.

Worst performance - Kankaanpään Maila
It was a very difficult week for Kankaanpää, playing teams such as Vimpeli, Raahe and the (should be much higher in the table) Koskenkorva. Despite their efforts Kankaanpää was completely outmatched and struggled throughout the week, which has dragged them down to 12th in the table and the potential to be relegated.

Worthy of mention - Siilinjärven Pesis

SiiPe get a mention this week, not because of how their overall performance was in the week, but because of the victory over Sotkamo, which was as significant as it was shocking. SiiPe have managed to pull themselves up to 11th in the table and starts to fight for a potential play-off spot. If SiiPe can beat big teams at the top then there is hope for them this season, although SiiPe really need to be consistent and get the wins against teams around them in the league as well in order to stay up.
