Koskenkorva v Tahko

Koskenkorvan Urheilijat v Hyvinkään Tahko
2nd July 2019

Koskenkorva have struggled at home lately, but their away form hasn’t been much better. Tahko were looking to come back after having lost to Alajärvi and Kempele, both of whom are much lower down in the table.

Tahko set the pace early, scoring 7 runs in the first inning. The first 3 runs came after a series of walks meant that Teemu Rouhiainen, Riku Hokkanen and Patrik Vartama scored. Koskenkorva’s woes continued with wild pitches bringing home Santtu Patova and Aku Kettunen to make it 0-5. Kalle-Taplo Huusko and Lauri Viermaa finished off the mammoth inning to leave Koskenkorva 7 runs behind without even approaching the plate. Koskenkorva scores thanks to Patrik Wahlsten bringing home Veli-Pekka Yli-Hirvelä. Koskenkorva were unable to capitalise on bringing home Riku Niemi, Juho Tolvola and Tuomas Tuohisaari who were all put out attempting to reach home. Things seemed to just get worse for Koskenkorva as Tahko scored 4 more runs from Juha Korhonen (2 runs) and Teemu Nikkanen as well as another wild throw allowed Lauri Vierimaa to score. Teemu Rouhiainen added the final run for Tahko in the third inning helping Teemu Rouhiainen score. Koskenkorva were helpless at this stage in the jakso and they were unable to get any runners successfully past second base. Tahko won the first jakso 1-12.

The second jakso started just as poorly for Koskenkorva, who could not get things going offensively. Tahko on the other hand saw Kalle-Tapio Huusko run home off Juha Korhonen’s hit; that was all Tahko managed to score in the first inning, a much more muted start to the jakso. Koskenkorva were scoreless yet again in the second inning, while Tahko built their lead to 2 runs thanks to Roni Whal’s kunniajuoksu (home run) brought home Juha Korhonen, but was stranded on third as the inning ended with Teemu Hikkanen being thrown out at home on the same play. Patrik Wahlsten pulled one back for the home team bringing Petrus Puputti to score, but this was the end of Koskenkorva’s offence for the game. Lauri Vierimaa came home to add to Tahko’s lead in the third inning from yet another wild throw to close out a chaotic game from Koskenkorva. Tahko won the second jakso 1-4.

Koskenkorva’s terrible first inning buried them and they were unable to come back from a series of walks and wild pitches that saw Tahko take a substantial lead. Throughout the game there were more wild throws from a sloppy and clearly beaten Koskenkorva. The result means that Koskenkorva remain rooted in the lower order of the table and likely to regret how easily Tahko dominated the game. Tahko on the other hand close the gap on third place KPL who are out of form at the moment, having dropped from the top spot in the table last week.

Score - 0-2 (1-12, 1-4) to Tahko
