IPV v Vimpeli

Imatran Pallo-Veikot v  Vimpeli Veto
30th June 2019

Vimpeli looked to show IPV how a league leader plays after IPV beat KPL earlier in the week. IPV had won their last 2 home matches and hoped to make it 3 in a row against the in-form Vimpeli.

IPV and Vimpeli seemed to be matching each other well in the first 2 innings, with both teams unable to break the deadlock and score. It was not to play out this way for long however, as Vimpeli sprung to life in the third off the back of a wild throw with Olli Heikkala, Mikko Kanala and Sami Haapakoski running home to score. Vimpeli then seemed to go into overdrive and scored 8 more runs in the fourth thanks to kunniajuoksu from Jere Saukko (2 runs), Elmeri Anttila (3 runs) and Sami Haapakoski (2 runs). IPV were as good as buried at this point and one cant help but imagine that their thoughts would be on the second jakso already; that said, IPV managed to claw back 2 runs with hits from Konsta Kurikka and Jere Dahlström bringing home Juuso Lattu and Sami Partanen respectively. Vimpeli won the first jakso 2-11.

The second jakso started as the first had ended for Vimpeli, who scored two runs in the first to set a marker for IPV. Despite narrowing the gap to just one run thanks to Joona Sikiö scoring of Sami Partanen’s hit, Vimpeli put their foot down and went on to score 5 runs in the second inning from Perttu Ruuska’s bases loaded Kunniajuoksu (4 runs) and Janne Mäkelä who brought Ruuska home to score. By now IPV must have felt well and truely beat, but they scored thanks to Jere Dahlström, bringing home Konsta Kurikka, but Jere couldn’t bring home Jarkko Matikka who was out at home. Vimpeli won the second jakso 2-7

Vimpeli dominated the game and from the third inning in the first jakso seemed impossible to stop, scoring a total of 18 runs from 5 innings. Vimpeli retained the top spot in the table and brought IPV’s hopes of extending their home winning streak to an end.

Score - 0-2 (2-11, 2-7) to Vimpeli
