Performance rankings 1st July to 7th July

Performance rankings
1st to 7th July 2019

With only 10 games this week, there isn’t a lot to analyse when it comes to performance, as a single victory could make or break a team this week.

1st Joensuun Maila
Joensuu had 2 games this week and won both; but the significant fact here is that Joensuu beat Sotkamo Jymy and took 3 points! Joensuu travelled to Sotkamo out for revenge, having lost to them only a few days earlier at home. This time JoMa won the game and showed why they are a serious threat this season. Joensuu managed to keep June’s player of the month (Roope Korhonen) to a dreary 33% at advancing lead runners.

2nd IPV
After topping last weeks rankings, IPV continued to show that they are one of the in-form teams in the league by beating Hyvinkään Tahko who are firmly 4th in the table. IPV go into the season break on a high and hope that their performance remains this good after the East v West game. IPV are one of the teams scrambling for a playoff spot and the win against Tahko will be significant.

3rd Vimpeli Veto
Vimpeli yet again go undefeated this week, but then again having only played 1 game that is not as impressive as it sounds. Never the less a convincing win over JymyJussit sees them come in third in this weeks performance ranking - based on performance so far this year, you expect Vimpeli to win a fair few of their games, especially against teams outside the top 4 or 5.

Worst performance - Koskenkorvan Urheilijat
There were four teams this week who didn’t win any games, but Koskenkorva lost 2 games giving up 3 points each time. Whilst the losses came to much higher ranked teams, the results mean that they have dropped into 13th place and at risk of relegation. Koskenkorva have Vimpeli after the mid-season break and will be unlikely to turn it around and beat the league leaders. Never the less, Koskenkorva will need to start taking wins where they can, or risk staying in the relegation battle.

Worthy of mention - Sotkamon Jymy

Given how well Sotkamo started the season, it was inevitable that the strain would get too much later in the season. Having been undefeated going into this week, Sotkamo lost to Joensuu 0-2 (1-2, 2-3). When Sotkamo went 0-6 at home to Kiteen Pallo -90 to lose the first jakso on 4th July, it looked as though they had completely gone. Luckily for Super Jymy fans Sotkamo posted 6 unanswered runs in the second jakso to leave Kitee a mammoth task in the fourth inning.  Kitee managed to reduce the deficit but only by two, which led to Sotkamo forcing and then winning the supervuoro. Sotkamo will be glad of the timing of this break and will look to hit refresh when the season restarts for them next week.
