Mid-season evaluation and review part 3

Mid-season evaluation

Places 10-14

10th Kempeleen Kiri
Last year Kempele were in Ykköspesis and won promotion to Superpesis, so far this season they have shown that they can play as well as some of the lower order teams. Kempele are only 2 points off 7th place at the moment and have beaten Hyvinkään Tahko and JymyJussit in the last month. Our calculations have KeKi making the playoffs (just), coming in at 8th ahead of Raahe. Kempele’s offence has been average this year so far, but their defence is better than average, conceding only the 7th most runs.
Current place in table: 10th
Estimated final position: 8th
Comment: Well done, keep it up. A nice try for the promoted side
Overall grade:

11th Kiteen Pallo -90
Kitee were 8th overall last year and made the playoffs; this year looks less promising. The start to the year has been hit and miss and Kitee find themselves in 11th place with the possibility of relegation or a playoff spot still in the balance. Whilst they are only 3 points away from 7th, their performance overall doesn’t bode well for their final table position. Our calculations have Kitee at 10th at the end of the season. Just before the break, Kitee showed promise when they won the first jakso against Sotkamo away 0-6, but it simply wasn’t to be and they lost in the supervuoro.
Current place in table: 11th
Estimated final position: 10th
Comment: Not a good performance this year, but there is still time to improve. Need to see more
Overall grade:
D

12th Siilinjärven Pesis
Siilinjärvi are in the hunt for a playoff spot technically, but it is hard to see where the wins will come from to keep them in the race. Siilinjärvi’s offence is the worst in the league and they will struggle to avoid relegation if that stays the case. Our calculations have Siilinjärvi finishing 13th at the end of the season. One positive is that they have won 2 of the last 3 games before the break, beating Alajärvi and Kitee.
Current place in table: 12th
Estimated final position: 13th
Comment: Where is the offence? 76 runs this season is simply not good enough
Overall grade:
E

13th Koskenkorvan Urheilijat
What a terrible start to the season Koskenkorva have had; from 5th last year, they are now in the relegation battle with Alajärvi and Siilinjärvi. Koskenkorva have lost to Kiteen Pallo -90 and Kankaanpään Maila within the last month and are the only team to have not won a 3pt game this season. Koskenkorva are 3rd worst in runs scored and in scored against. Our calculations have Koskenkorva finishing in 12th ahead of Siilinjärvi when the dust settled.
Current place in table: 13th
Estimated final position: 12th
Comment: Awful start to the year. Will need to do much better. See me after class!
Overall grade:
F

14th Alajärven Ankkurit
Alajärvi are anchored to the bottom of the table and it looks like that they will stay there come the end of the season. For all of Alajärvi’s efforts, they simply are out-matched by their opponents and whilst the pay managed to avoid relegation last year, it looks like their time is up. Alajärvi have conceded 170 runs this season - averaging 10 a game, which is the second worst in the league. The one positive the club can take is the fact that they have won a 3pt game whereas Koskenkorva have not. Our calculations put Alajärvi at 14th at the end of the season and it will be down to who they play from Ykköspesis that will determine whether they get another reprieve and survive to play in Superpesis next year.
Current place in table: 14th
Estimated final position: 14th
Comment:  Not the sharpest ball club. A good try, but really not good enough
Overall grade:
