Mid-season evaluation and review part 1

Mid-season evaluation

Places 1-5

1st Vimpelin Veto
Vimpeli has had a great start to the season and tops the table at the East v West misprint season break. Vimpeli has won all but 1 of the 17 games they have olayed so far, which came at the hands of rivals Sotkamon Jymy. They have scored more runs in total than any other team (217) and have conceded fewer as well (77), combining for an overall excellent performance so far. According to the Pythagorean estimation equation this blog has devised, Vimpeli are set to remain top of the league come the end of season.
Current place in table: 1st
Estimated final position: 1st
Comment: Superb effort so far - keep up the good work
Overall grade:
A+

2nd Kouvolan Pallonlyöjät
Having held on to top spot, the wheels came off for KPL just before the break, losing 2 games on the bounce. Having said that they have clawed their way back to second place, overtaking Sotkamo, just before the break. KPL have been fortunate to win the games that they have according to this sites calculations, and they could find themselves slipping further down the table come the end of the season. A strong effort so far and definitely in the hunt for a playoff spot with home field advantage.
Current place in table: 2nd
Estimated final position: 4th
Comment: Better performance than expected, very good start
Overall grade:
A

3rd Sotkamon Jymy
Sotkamo have been faultless at times and at others have looked shakey. Dropping a point to Kiteen Pallo -90 just before the break was particularly worrying as it seemed that Kitee had Sotkamo pegged in the first jakso. Overall it has been a strong start for Sotkamo, who have only lost 1 game this season, which was to the current champions, Joensuun Maila. Sotkamo are definitely in the running for top spot and are obvious contenders with Vimpeli to become champions. According to our calculations, Sotkamo are about where they should be in the table and are likely to remain a significant force come the end of the season.
Current place in table: 3rd
Estimated final position: 3rd
Comment: Lacks consistency jakso to jakso but gets the job done. Still, a very good performance
Overall grade:
A

4th Hyvinkään Tahko
Tahko are under placed in the table according to our calculations, they have had 10 3 point wins this season to date and show promise to reach as high as 2nd in the table. The biggest problem for Tahko is when they have conceded a jakso - they have not won a single supervuoro or scoring contest (Kotiutuskilpailu) all season. Keeping in mind the fact that Tahko finished 11th in the table last season, they have done incredibly well this far.
Current place in table: 4th
Estimated final position: 2nd
Comment: Very good start to the year, although seems to struggle when under pressure
Overall grade:
B

5th Joensuun Maila
The reigning champions have kept pace with the big boys this season and at the break are comfortably 5th. Fans will be concerned that Joensuu have dropped games to Siilinjärven Pesis, IPV and Hyvinkään Tahko, but encouraged by their recent win over Sotkamon Jymy.  According to our calculations JoMa are exactly where they should be and are expected to come in at 5th in the table at the end of the season, if all things play out as expected, they would avoid Vimpeli and Sotkamo in the first round of playoffs.
Current place in table: 5th
Estimated final position: 5th
Comment: Very good effort so far, exactly what you would expect so far this season
Overall grade:

B
