Vimpeli had been almost flawless this season and had not lost two games in a row so far. For Tahko their record was less impressive; although they had won 3 of their last 5 games and taken a point from each of their two losses. Vimpeli had won all bar 1 of their encounters with Tahko in the last 5 years. Tahko opened the scoring in the 2nd inning thanks to Juha Korhonen, but their lead was short lived as Vimpeli scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second. For Alajärvi, they desperately needed some points to try and lift them from bottom of the table and join the pack above them. JyJu were hoping to put some distance between themselves and Raahe  in 7th in the table. Coming into the game JyJu were in fine form, having won 4 out of the last 5, losing only to the seemingly unstoppable Vimpeli in a tight game (2-0 (1-0, 5-4)).
