Power Rankings 7th to 13th June 2021

The second week of the regular season is now behind us, but who was top of the power rankings and who was left struggling?

1st Manse PP

Manse sit at the top of the table with Vimpeli, but have had a tougher schedule than ViVe. The jewel in the crown was a home win over Joensuu, where Manse took the full 3 points. even the win over Kempele was not a certainty, as Kempele’s much improved performance this season has meant that they are a more difficult team to beat. Henri Puputti led Manse’s offence in style against JoMa with a 4 run home run that took his career tally to over 700 RBIs.

2nd Imatran Pallo-Veikot

IPV played only 1 game last week, but it was a significant result for the club, who many have predicted will fall way short of the battle for a post-season spot. IPV took the full 3 points against Hyvinkää, who finished 6th last season. Despite IPV losing a number of players to Kitee in the offseason from critical roles, the team are actually doing far better than Kitee in the standings.

3rd Siilinjärven Pesis

Yes that’s right! SiiPe are 3rd in the power rankings. The start to the season for SiiPe has been a curious one and (as we predicted in the recent podcast) has been highly entertaining and exciting to follow. SiiPe are clear favourites to be relegated at the end of this season, but they are certainly making other teams likely in the bottom 3 of the table nervous. SiiPe currently sit in 5th place in the table; a massive 10 places higher than many predicted they would finish. SiiPe’s high ranking last week is as a result of their 2 games against Kitee; winning the last of the 2 games at home with 3 points and stealing a point on the road.

Worst performance - Pattijoen Urheilijat, Raahe

PattU pick up this unwelcome title last week, even though they fought hard against Kempele in their only game in the last 7 days. Whilst Kankaanpää’s 2 losses to Vimpeli were tough, they were expected and in fact Kankaanpää showed some spirit in the second game. Hamina too faced very tough opponents, so their losses were expected too. For PattU, the loss to Kempele was a tough one to take, with Jari Törmänen being all but shut out and unable to be an effective part of their offence. PattU were expected to win this game; however Kempele are not the struggling side they were in the last 2 years.
