Performance rankings - 27th July to 2nd August 2020

Joensuu have good reason to celebrate after dominating against Sotkamo last week

As we reach halfway through the season the push is on now for the playoff spots. Here are last weeks performance rankings.

1st Joensuun Maila

Joensuu were on fine form last week with 2 huge wins over Sotkamo that restored a lot of faith in their status as favourites to win the championship. With 8 points out of a possible 9 last week it would have been good enough to reach the top end of the rankings regardless of who their opponents were; however 5 of those points came from wins over the league leading Sotkamo team that hadn’t lost a game since their initial game against Kempele.

2nd Vimpelin Veto

Vimpeli have been building their season and are starting to put some solid results together. It may sound like taking 3 points from a game against Koskenkorva is easy; however KoU have started to put results together and have been threatening to join the fight for the top 8. Vimpeli have some key questions to answer if they want to be championship contenders, but last week was a step in the right direction to answering them.

3rd Kouvolan Pallonlyöjat

Whilst they haven’t been able to regain their place at the top of the table, KPL gave some strong performances to take 5 out of 6 points against Hyvinkää. KPL continues to impress in all aspects of the game and pitcher Janne Kivipelto is an early contender to take pitcher of the year based on his solid work in the field.

Worst performance - Kiteen Pallo -90

Kitee have been left reeling from a bruising week where they lost to rivals for top 8 spots - Kempele and Kankaanpää. As a result of these losses Kitee have started to slide down the table and are clinging on to 8th place.

Worthy of note - Sotkamon Jymy

Sotkamo’s winning streak came tumbling to an end dramatically when they were beaten in back to back games against Joensuu. Picking up only 2 points against Koskenkorva seemed like a poor result for Sotkamo, but they still sit at the top of the table.
