Making history with a podcast

For the first time there is now a podcast about Pesäpallo in English
The podcast is here!
What started out as a throw away comment between English speaking pesäpallo fans has become the first ever pesis podcast in the English language. Until now most of the coverage of pesäpallo in English has been limited to “the same article in US media” once a year and those occasional videos that try and explain a fraction of what this sport is. Having said that of course, the 1 year anniversary of this blog is rapidly approaching, with over 100 posts published and close to 2000 views, but other than that, the pesis world has been almost exclusively in Finnish.

What is this podcast?
If you follow this blog regularly, the podcast will actually be quite familiar to you anyway, but in short there are 3 main aims for the podcast:
  1. Spread the word and gain popularity for pesäpallo beyond Finland;
  2. To give insight and analysis on the game generally; and
  3. To bring the latest news and analysis of games in the men’s Superpesis.

Who are the podcasters?
I am the host of the podcast and I am joined by 2 exceptional co-hosts in the form of Ron Bronson and Mikko Pirhonen. Ron is an American pesis fan who has covered the sport for a number of years and had great exposure in the Finnish media for his efforts. Mikko is a player turned coach who has significant experience of the game. Mikko has even coached in English and is a big supporter of spreading the game beyond Finland, having recently coached the Nepal and Bangladesh teams at the 2019 Pesäpallo World Cup in Pune, India.

The dynamic between the podcasters is an interesting one, as Ron and I come to pesäpallo with great knowledge and experience of baseball and cricket (the worlds biggest bat and ball sports). Mikko on the other hand has an instinctive knowledge of pesäpallo. The different backgrounds lead us all to look at pesis in a different way and hopefully will help people who are already familiar with other bat and ball sports transition to pesäpallo.

I am truly privileged to work alongside such talented and knowledgable people.

What will the future hold for the podcast?
We are currently working on a bonus episode during the current lockout, which will be a general look at what pesäpallo is and talk through some of the aspects of the game for beginners and those wanting to learn more. On top of this, work is already underway at looking at the May edition of the podcast, including an overview of all of the Superpesis teams to help people choose a club to support.

Where can I listen to this podcast?
Pretty much anywhere - the podcast is available on all the major platforms: iTunes (Apple Podcasts), Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, Soundcloud, Blubrry and more.

In addition to this list, the podcast will shortly be available on YouTube (watch this space for the announcement).
