Performance rankings 29th July to 4th August 2019

Performance rankings
29th July to 4th August 2019

With only 8 more days worth of games scheduled and only 1 playoff spot still up for grabs, things are starting to draw to a close. Here are last weeks performance rankings.

1st KPL
With Antti Hartikainen being named as player of the month for July, KPL hit their stride and topped out performance rankings for last week. Taking 3 points against Raahe, who are also on good form was of significance in this week’s rankings, as well as taking a point from the Vimpeli game. KPL are still on the outside when it comes to topping the table; however their performance this week has secured their place in the top 4 and home advantage when the playoffs start.

2nd Sotkamon Jymy
Sotkamo remain 2nd in our performance rankings this week with another solid performance against playoff bound Tahko (3 points) and Raahe (2 points), but were beaten for the first time in a supervuoro this season by Kankaanpää. Sotkamo are getting the wins against the big names, but dropping points against lower ranked teams; this makes the postseason somewhat unpredictable for Sotkamo and they will need to steady the ship and keep up their good performances against lower ranked teams.

3rd Pattijoen Urheilijat, Raahe
Raahe reached 3rd in our performance rankings this week with a huge 3 point win over current champions Joensuun Maila as well as a point against 2nd in the league and perennial contenders Sotkamo. Raahe have now secured their playoff place and are knocking on the door of 6th place Seinajoki who are only 1 point ahead. Raahe will be pleased to be hitting form at this point in the season and will hope that the momentum will follow through into the post season.

Worst performance - Siilinjärven Pesis
Despite moving up to 12th in the table SiiPe have struggled recently to escape the relaxation battle. Last week’s 3 losses have now tied them for 13th with Koskenkorva and put them out of touch of 11th place. The 3 games were tough for SiiPe and they were expected to struggle, but they cannot afford to drop points in any games if they want to avoid the relegation playoffs.

Worthy of mention - Kankaanpää Maila

Kankaanpää had a really tough week this week with games against Joensuu, Sotkamo and Kitee; however Kankaanpää pushed each of their opponents to the very limit. Each game was taken to extra innings (Supervuoro or Kotiutuskilpailu) with Kitee’s game going to 22 batting pairs (11 each) during the scoring contest. In total Kankaanpää took 4 points from a week where they could easily have been expected to have 0. Kankaanpää showed real fighting spirit and desire to stay in the race for the playoffs and by their sheer determination remain in the hunt.
