Kempele blast Seinäjoki in front of the home crowd for 3 well earned points Kempeleen Kiri v Seinäjoen JymyJussit 2-0 (8-3, 3-1) Whilst Kitee have been gaining momentum towards the end of the season, Seinäjoki seem to have stalled and are starting to slip from what seemed like an almost inevitable 5th place. Seinäjoki had a tough 2 games on the road leading to this matchup, having lost to KPL and Vimpeli 2-0 in each game. The matchup between these two teams favour Seinäjoki and the last game against Kempele was only 1 week ago with a solid 2-0 win for JymyJussit. Kempele have been trying to reignite the spark that they had at the stat or the season, but in their last 5 games they had lost 2-0 in 4 of them. The other game in Kempele’s last 5 was against a struggling PattU, so it is hard to gauge whether that would give much confidence to the team. Kempele set to work immediately, with 3 runs in the 1st inning. Matti Korhonen’s hit to the midfield line was mishandled and saw the fi...

Hyvinkää storm back into the top 8 with key wins over IPV and KPL There was one result last week that changed as a result of an ineligible player. This has a significant impact on teams at the top and bottom of the performance rankings, so I have had to apply a bit of thought to how to deal with the Siilinjärvi v Koskenkorva result... 1st Hyvinkään Tahko Hyvinkää needed a big performance to lift themselves up into the playoff spots and last week they certainly got that. With 2 wins from 2 games, scoring 5 out of a possible 6 points, this was a solid week for Tahko - especially when you realise that one win came against KPL. Pihkala is known for its run scoring potential and so far this season Hyvinkää had struggled to stop their opponents exploiting this and have the most runs conceded in the league. Last week however they managed to power past both KPL and IPV with Juha Korhonen’s 7 RBI against IPV and Teemu Nikkanen’s perfect 8/8 at moving the point runner, including 4 RBI agains...

The tale of two Koskenkorva

How times have changed... Koskenkorva are playing well, but it wasn’t alway that way What kind of season has it been for Koskenkorva? “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...” or should that be the other way round when it comes to Koskenkorva? For a team that sat in 14th place week after week at the beginning of the season, with a troubling 0 points scored, the season seems to have taken an unexpected turn for KoU, who now sit at 8th in the league and are causing problems for big teams. ... the worst of times The start of the season was a disaster for Koskenkorva with 0 points in 5 games, despite having amongst their ranks the league leader in RBI and July’s player of the month - Patrik Wahlsten. The outfield was leaking runs like a sieve and Wahlsten seemed to be the only player who could generate runs. The fortunes changed in a close run game against newly promoted Manse, and a 2 point win finally broke the back of their scoreless season. The best of times... Af...

Kitee power past SiiPe as they close in on 4th in the table Siilinjärven Pesis v Kiteen Pallo -90 0-2 (2-5, 0-3) This is an interesting matchup and comes at a time when Kitee and SiiPe are in good form. Kitee had won 3 straight games until their narrow kotiutuskilpailu loss to Joensuu on Tuesday this week. Their wins included a big win against KPL that came as a kick start to their second half of the season. Coming into this game Kitee are 5th in the league and looking to cement their place in the playoffs. SiiPe have won 2 of their last 4 games 2-0 and narrowly lost to Vimpeli in a scoring contest. Despite SiiPe sitting at the bottom of the table, they are only 6 points behind 7th and 8th place. In the last meeting between these 2 teams (which was also a featured game on the blog), Kitee won 1-0 after failing to capitalise on winning the first jakso.  In the buildup to the game however, the Pesäpallo Association announced that the result on 11th August between SiiPe and...
