Vimpeli had been almost flawless this season and had not lost two games in a row so far. For Tahko their record was less impressive; although they had won 3 of their last 5 games and taken a point from each of their two losses. Vimpeli had won all bar 1 of their encounters with Tahko in the last 5 years. Tahko opened the scoring in the 2nd inning thanks to Juha Korhonen, but their lead was short lived as Vimpeli scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second. News 17th July 2019 Result change due to inedible player The league has amended the result between Kankaanpään Maila v Koskenkorvan Urheilijat due to Koskenkorva fielding an ineligible player. The result will now be: Kankaanpään Maila v Koskenkorvan Urheilijat 2-0 (1-0, 1-0) The player in question was Atte Brandt who was the pitcher (Lukkari) hit a 75% success rate at moving the point runner, going 3/4 and reaching home to score off Juho Toivola in the 2nd inning of the first jakso. Brandt moved from Tahko by a temporary transfer to Koskenkorva on 3rd July 2019; however he did not pay the registration fee within the time limit (by 10th July) and was this ineligible to play in the game against Kankaanpää.  The registration payment has now been paid as of 16th July and Brandt will be eligible to play for Koskenkorva after 21st July 2019 where their next game where he will be eligible will be against Raahe on 23rd July. Around the league 12th to 14th July 2019 Seinäjoen JymyJussit v Koskenkorvan Urheilijat 12th July 2019 2-0 (5-1, 9-5) Photograph from Seinäjoki Facebook (c) Seinäjoen JymyJussit 2019 Seinäjoki looked to this game to assert themselves after allowing Alajärvi back into the game last week. The home team have 4 wins out of the last 5 whereas Koskenkorva are on a slide and had lost 4 in 5. The head to head favoured Seinäjoki who had won the last 4 meetings. Seinäjoki opened the scoring in the 1st inning with Jukka-Pekka Vainionpää bringing home Juuso Myllyniemi. Before Koskenkorva could muster a response, Jukka-Pekka had scored twice more and Henri Puputti made it 4. Patrik Wahlsten made it 4-1, but the home side hero Jukka-Pekanbaru Vainionpää scored his 4th of the game to give Seinajoki a 5-1 lead that Koskenkorva were unable to overcome. Performance rankings 8th to 14th July 2019 With everyone refreshed after the East-West mid season break and ready to go, here are last weeks performance rankings. 1st KPL Having lost their first two games in the season just before the break, KPL have come back with a very strong performance and took 9 out of 9 possible points from IPV, Kiteen Palo -90 and Siilinjärven Pesis. KPL have significantly started to pull away from the lower order of the top 8 and are virtually guaranteed home advantage in the playoffs. With just 1 point separating the top 2 teams, KPL will be hoping to push for the top spot in the coming weeks. 2nd Hyvinkään Tahko Tahko are second in our rankings this week, despite only playing 2 games, because of how significant their wins are over Raahe and Kempele - who are both fighting for playoff places; these are the type of teams Tahko must beat to stay in shape at the end of the season. For Alajärvi, they desperately needed some points to try and lift them from bottom of the table and join the pack above them. JyJu were hoping to put some distance between themselves and Raahe  in 7th in the table. Coming into the game JyJu were in fine form, having won 4 out of the last 5, losing only to the seemingly unstoppable Vimpeli in a tight game (2-0 (1-0, 5-4)). JyJu opened the scoring 1-0, but the lead changed hands several times in the first jakso before JyJu scored 6 runs in the 4th inning with Toni Marjamäki and Mikko Haukkala scoring kunniajuoksu (home runs). Kankaanpään Maila v Pattijoen Urheilijat, Raahe 9th July 2019 After the short break, both teams hope to start the second half of the season with a win. Just before the break Raahe beat Kempeleen Kiri for 3 points as Kankaanpään Maila beat Alajärven Ankkurit also for 3. Only 1 point separates the two teams who are both jostling for a playoff spot.  Raahe 1st 1A Jere Achren made a perfect start running the bases and eventually scoring off Juuso Keski-Koukkari hit, beating the ball to home due to a KaMa over throw. Raahe were unable to get anything else going in the inning as Timo Kallio was out at home attempting off Juuso Keski-Koukkari’s hit to centre field. Timo Hanhisalo’s misdirected hit straight to the KaMa shortstop saw Jan Hankala out at second base to close out the inning.
