Player rankings - Halli-SM 2020

In this post we take a look at who the best players were statistically during the group stages of Halli-SM 2020 and consider how their performances impacted on their teams success.

Runs batted in
Patrik Wahlsten (Koskenkorva) topped the table in runs batted in with 8, despite playing in only 2 games. Wahlsten’s success rating with runners on 3rd was a decent 61.54%  (8/13). Despite his impressive numbers Koskenkorva lost all 3 of their games. Henri Puputti (JymyJussit) was 6/6 with runners on 3rd base for the 2 games he played, leaving no doubt that he is a serious threat whenever he steps up to bat. However, as with Wahlsten, Puputti’s success did not translate into wins for his team. Out of the top 5 players in this category, the one that had the biggest impact on securing success for his team was Jari Törmänen for PattU, whose kunniajuoksu against Sotkamo was a turning point in the game and led to them winning the group.

Runs
Tuomas Raunio scored 7 runs over 3 games for JymyJussit to lead the competition at the end of the group stages, which translates as 2.3 per game. Timo Marjamäki of JymyJussit scored 6 runs from 3 games as well, combining for 13 of the teams 24 runs. Offensively, JymyJussit was one of the better sides in the group stages; however they conceded a total of 25 runs over 3 games, which hampered their chances of reaching the semi finals. Perhaps of more significance was Timo Kallio (PattU) who averaged 2.5 per game and could have topped the table if his trend continued into a third game. Alongside teammate Jari Törmänen, Kallio was a key factor in PattU reaching the semi finals. Runs came relatively easy for JoMa and it is no surprise that they also have 2 of the top players for runs scored (Konsta Kettunen- 6 and Topi Hurskainen- 5). The big difference between JoMa and JymyJussit is the runs that they conceded in the defensive half of the innings. JoMa routinely shut out their opponents, conceding 6 runs in 3 games (of which only 1 run was scored over 2 games) against JymyJussit’s 25 runs conceded.

Successful hits

Lauri Kivinen (JoMa) was easily the best player at moving the point runner in the group stages, with 18 hits over 3 games. The 2nd place was tied with a number of players who each had 15 hits. Of note amongst the list are Kari Kellokoski who had a phenomenal game against JymyJussit going 8/9 (89%) and teammate Arttu Ruuska who was solid at moving the point runner in various situations. Both players were instrumental in Kankaanpää’s push to win their group. Teemu Nurmio (IPV) led the table for successful hits to first base with 15 over 3 games. Of those players not in this list, but of significance are PattU’s Jari Törmänen who had 14 successful hits and averaged 7 per game, 6 of which were bringing runners home to score. Another success story was Tuomas Tuohisaari (Manse PP) who also had 14 successful hits with an average of 7 per game against very tough opponents (KPL and Tahko).
