Photograph from Vimpeli Facebook (c) Vimpelin Veto 2019 Prediction: At the outset we predicted that Vimpeli would win, 3 games to 0, Kitee very nearly pulled off the upset of the post season when they came back to force a supervuoro, but in the end Vimpeli were just too much and won the game in the kotiutuskilpailu. Summary: Vimpeli’s victory only a few days ago seemed like a distant memory as Kitee gave it their all in a thrilling game 2 of the series. Vimpeli won the first jakso 2-5, with Perttu Ruuska scoring a 3 run kunniajuoksu in the 2nd inning. The second jakso however was an entirely different story as it became a tight game. Perttu Ruuska opened the scoring for Vimpeli, only for Kitee to equalise in the bottom...

Photograph from Raahe Facebook (c) Pattijoen Urheilijat, Raahe 2019 Postseason review: Round 1 Quarter finals Vimpelin Veto 1 v 0 Kiteen Pallo-90 2-0 (7-1, 4-2) Prediction: At the outset we predicted that Vimpeli would win, 3 games to 0, this emphatic win over Kitee looks like Vimpeli have their eye firmly on the Semi finals already. Photograph from Vimpeli Facebook (c) Vimpelin Veto 2019 Summary: Vimpeli put a marker down early in this series - Kitee may have won their place in the top 8, but Vimpeli are the top team in this league! Vimpeli showed strength up and down their lineup in this game, with 8 players having over 50% success at moving the point runner. Perttu Ruuska leading the team with 4 runs batted in, albeit it could have been more as he was 4/7 with point runners on 3rd base. Mikkolanaho Kanala was the other standout player for Vimpeli who had success across the bases and showed versatility in moving 5/9 runners to 2nd, 3/3 to 3rd and scoring a ku...

Photograph from Siilinjärvi Facebook (c) Siilinjärven Pesis 2019 Elimination series preview Siilinjärven Pesis (13) v Alajärven Ankkurit (14) Photograph from Alajärvi Facebook (c) Alajärven Ankkurit 2019 Head to head: Siilinjärvi have won both of the games they have played against Alajärvi, with one going to a supervuoro. Those 2 games are the only times these two teams have met. Form: Siilinjärvi have had a poor run in the last 5 games, which has seen them slip back into 13th in the table, losing all 5 of their recent games and only taking 1 point out of a possible 15. Alajärvi has done marginally better, taking 2 points out of 15, with a win against Sotkamo in a supervuoro- which was a significant achievement. Prediction: Siilinjärvi to win, 3 games to 1. Summary: Despite Alajärvi’s win at the end of the season against championship contenders Sotkamo, Alajärvi are the underdogs in this series. Siilinjärvi have an almost equally poor record as Alajärvi, b...

Performance rankings 5th to 11th August 2019 With the season now all but over, save for the final games on Tuesday 13th August and the final playoff spot still up for grabs, things are going down to the wire. Here are last weeks performance rankings. 1st Seinäjoen JymyJussit  After having a fairly muted performance in the week prior, Seinäjoki managed to win big against Hyvinkää and took a point against Sotkamo to top this week’s rankings. Seinäjoki are now only 2 points behind Hyvinkää with 1 game left to play. Seinäjoki are hitting their stride coming into their final game and post season. Their position in the table is still subject to change and (depending how the results fall) could finish either 5th or 6th.  2nd Joensuun Maila The current champions clearly have their sights on retaining their crown with their performance of late. Joensuu have the chance to finish 3rd in the table and leapfrog previous league leaders KPL, who are just 2 points ahead...

The roundup 5th to 12th August 2019 The big stories Rule changes for Superpesis 2020 The Pesis association has decided on several rule changes for next season. When the rule book is updated these rules will be explained further on this blog. The changes (translated via google, so some of them I haven’t quite understood how they will work yet) will include: Leaving strikers free between strokes when striking; The team has one timeout throughout the match; The home team has the opportunity to decide the length of the break between 12-20 minutes; Reviewing practices regarding shift duration and missions; and Identifying ways to activate players.  Possible changes to the rules for further preparation  Further investigating the effects of the three-run rule (requirement of three runs in the batting round to continue the inning as opposed to the current 2 run requirement) on the game; Find out the facts about scrapping the Supervuoro and games going s...

Around the league 9th to 11th August 2019

Around the league Friday 9th August 2019 Joensuun Maila v Kiteen Pallo -90 1-2s (6-3, 4-7, 0-1) Photograph from Joensuu Facebook (c) Jeonsuun Maila 2019 Joensuu are on a mission to build momentum before the post season and possibly pip KPL into 3rd in the table. Kitee however have much higher stakes and are locked in a battle for the last playoff spot with IPV (and to a lesser extent Kankaanpää). Joensuu have been unstoppable of late having won all their games since June. Kitee have also been on a good run, having won 4 of their last 5, with their only loss having been at the expense of Joensuu. The win leaves Kitee in a very strong position for the playoff battle and will give them confidence, having beaten such a strong team. JoMa were left scratching their heads, having won the first jakso, only to lose in a supervuoro. Other results Seinäjoen JymyJussit v Sotkamon Jymy 1-2s (4-2, 4-8, 2-3) Saturday 10th August 2019 Alajärven Ankkurit v Kosk...
